Prayer

P

Ponderings on Beaufort St – 6th May 2013
He sat upon the low stone wall
In crumpled slump
As if the act of rising
Had drained his will to stand
His fingers feverishly tapped
On the screen of his phone
Hoping though the church was closed
God was still at home
He sat outside this House of Prayer
Praying that someone would respond
To message sent with feverish haste
Into cyber space
Perhaps it was for strength he sought
To uncurl his slump
To rise from low stone walled perch
And face this day with strength and grace
Perhaps it was for friends
To fill the lonely hours
Outside a closed church
And give him company
In him “E-T’s” desire
To phone home
And see if in his loneliness
There is some universal grace
Man hopes God has kept pace with
Apple’s growth from Garden to the phone
And in the nano-silence between incoming calls
He hears that whispered sound of universal grace
