The Hungry Ones

We are the hungry
Filling our mouths
Our soul’s larder bare
Teeth masticate
Minds regurgitate
Gnawed memories
Our souls stare
In vacant desperation
Begging bowl pleading
For simple recognition
We are the hungry, grown
Fat on our desperation
The ritual of grace forgotten
Unrequired by souls bloated
By wind and emptiness
We are the starving
Failing to remember, our souls

Do not live by fast food alone.
