He didn’t realise
Or perhaps he did,
But didn’t say
Perhaps he couldn’t
For fear, once spoken
It would be true
What would he do
With such truth
If it were true
How would he choose
To see himself
Would it all make sense?
Words carefully chosen
A hint then divert
A subtle opening
Quickly closed
A ripple on the surface
That sent an inward chill
I watched him as he danced
Pained at his uncertainty
Perhaps he was happy
In his uncertainty
Convinced in his silence
Lay salvation
Yet lies do not save
Nor are we saved from lying
Salvation is not certain
All we can hope
Is to be saved
From lying to ourselves
